Property Dispute Deepens Rift Between Ssegirinya’s Mother and Widows.

Following the death of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya in January 2025, a bitter property dispute has erupted within his family, pitting his mother, Justine Ssanyu Nakajjumba, against his widows. According to multiple reports, Nakajjumba has assumed control over most of Ssegirinya’s estate, including key properties such as a farm in Matuga and rental units in Kawempe. She is said to be managing these assets alongside her daughters.

The widows, including Twahira Akandinda, Shamim Namutebi, Betty Ntakimanyire, Judith Nalule, and Mariam Nakabuye (alias Maama Nagirinya), have reportedly lost access to these properties. Tensions escalated when Nakajjumba allegedly asked the widows to return Ssegirinya’s grandchildren to her care, and Fatuma Nanfuka (mother of Nagirinya) was reportedly forced out of her rental home (“Muzigo”).

Akandinda has threatened to petition the courts for guidance on the ongoing property row, signaling a possible legal battle ahead. The family split has become public, with each side supporting different candidates in the recent Kawempe North by-election, further exposing the deep divisions.
