Western Uganda-based artist Ray G, real name Reagan Muhairwe, has addressed ongoing rumors of a feud with fellow musician Latinum. The controversy arose after Latinum repeatedly took jabs at Ray G on social media, challenging his title as the ‘King of the West’—a label fans had bestowed upon Ray G due to his continued dominance in the region’s music industry.
During a recent interview, Ray G initially appeared reluctant to discuss the matter but later dismissed any claims of beef, stating that the conflict was entirely one-sided.
“He is the one that has a problem with me, not the other way around. A war is between two people, but in this case, there is only one person fighting. You should check on him and find out what his issue is because you all saw him talking and you just kept quiet,” Ray G remarked.
Latinum, known for his dancehall style, has made several attempts to diminish Ray G’s influence, particularly in the Western Uganda music scene. In a viral TikTok live session, Latinum lashed out at Ray G’s fans, dismissing their claims that he was the biggest star in the region. He went further to declare that Ray G lacked the talent to be considered among Uganda’s top artists.
“He [Ray G] does not have the right to put himself among the top artists because he has no talent. I am the only king of the dancehall genre, and my return is about reclaiming my throne,” Latinum boldly stated.
Unlike Latinum, Ray G chose to downplay the situation, emphasizing that the Ugandan music industry is vast and capable of accommodating multiple artists. He pointed out that he had no interest in engaging in unnecessary disputes over titles and rankings.
“The world is self-service. If someone comes out and says he is the best, you do not have to argue with the guy,” Ray G said.
This is not the first time Latinum has stirred controversy within the music industry. After taking a break from the mainstream scene, his return has been marked by efforts to reestablish himself, often through provocative statements targeting fellow musicians.
With Ray G refusing to escalate the situation, fans and industry observers will be keen to see whether Latinum continues his attacks or if he shifts his focus to letting his music speak for itself.
