80-year-old President Teodoro Obiang, the world’s serving president is set to extend his 43 years in office after the preliminary results released by Equatorial Guinea government showed his party winning over 99 percent of votes counted in the presidential elections held on Sunday, November 20.
Teodoro’s ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) and coalition with 67,012 votes out of 67,196 votes counted so far.
Teodoro is seeking for the sixth term but two opposition candidates are standing in his way. Buenaventura Monsuy Asumu who has run ad lost in the five elections, and Andres Esono who is running for the first time.
