According to Superintendent of Police Racheal Kawala, the preliminary investigation revealed that Mubi had separated from his wife, who left their two children in his care. Following a failed search for employment in Buyende and Kayunga districts, Mubi traveled to Hoima City with his children but was unable to locate his brother upon arrival. This series of events culminated in the tragic poisoning of his children.
Police reports indicate that Mubi entered a building belonging to a local resident, Namuli Betty, with his children and later administered poison to them, resulting in their immediate deaths. The deceased have been identified as Thomas Bugembe, aged 6, and Praise Kabanda, aged 4.

The police were alerted to the incident and responded promptly, discovering the bodies at the scene. Superintendent Kawala stated that it appears Mubi intended to kill his children and escape for his own survival. The bodies have been transferred to Kiboga Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting discussions about the importance of mental health support for parents and families facing difficult circumstances.
