The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has established detailed standards regulating the operation of saunas and steam rooms across Uganda. These standards cover both the physical setup and behavioral expectations to ensure safety, hygiene, and the health of users.

Saunas must maintain temperatures between 70 and 100 degrees Celsius and use materials that are smooth, impervious, and easy to clean. Users are strictly prohibited from being nude, consuming alcohol or drugs, bringing electronic devices into sauna rooms, and engaging in unsanitary practices such as spitting or walking barefoot. Safety devices like pressure sensors and temperature gauges are mandatory, and operators must submit fire safety plans to relevant authorities.
