Utah state authorities have announced plans to seek the death penalty against Tyler Robinson, who is charged with the aggravated murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. According to a probable cause affidavit released Friday, Robinson fatally shot Kirk at Utah Valley University, creating a grave risk of death to many around him during the incident.

The affidavit cites a specific provision of Utah’s aggravated murder law that requires prosecutors to prove the defendant’s actions put others beyond the victim at great risk of death. Kirk was addressing a crowd when Robinson opened fire, killing him. The charging document underscores the severity and premeditated nature of the attack, aligning with the state’s capital crime statutes.
