Victoria University Kampala has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fraudulent scheme where individuals are impersonating the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Muganga, to extort money despite having no authorization. The scam involves emails sent to unsuspecting members of the public soliciting funds for fictitious projects claimed to be under Victoria University’s auspices.

In an official statement dated September 27, 2025, the University’s Corporate and Public Relations Manager, Julius Bukyana Kato, affirmed that neither the University nor Prof. Muganga is connected to these solicitations. He urged vigilance, advising people to ignore such messages and verify any communication directly before taking any action. Bukyana condemned the scammers as conmen leveraging the reputations of trusted individuals and the institution to defraud innocent Ugandans, warning against the sharing of personal data with fraudsters.
