State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations Esther Davinia Anyakun opened the conference by highlighting Uganda’s open-door policy towards refugees and asylum seekers. She encouraged attendees to recognize the contributions of Eritreans who have established successful businesses within Uganda’s economy. “They are catalysts of development,” she noted.
Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs Abbey Walusimbi commended the Eritrean community for their significant impact on Uganda’s economic landscape. He reassured them that President Museveni is committed to creating an environment conducive to investments. “Your business acumen is admirable,” he stated during his remarks.
The conference also featured discussions on cultural integration led by Kidane Ghebrehawariat Habteselassie, who emphasized the importance of building strong relationships among communities. His gratitude towards Ugandans for their hospitality resonated with many participants.
With over 300 strategic attendees present, the conference successfully reviewed previous investments made by the Eritrean diaspora while identifying new opportunities for collaboration. As Uganda continues to strengthen its ties with its diaspora communities, this event serves as a testament to the potential benefits of unity through diversity in fostering economic growth and cultural understanding.
