Parliament Calls for Expanded Vocational Training Services

Kampala, Uganda – In a bid to enhance rehabilitation efforts, the Committee on Education and Sports has called on the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) to extend its vocational training services to prisons. This proposal was discussed during a meeting where UBTEB presented its budget plans for the upcoming financial year.

Hon. Nathan Itungo highlighted the potential benefits of offering vocational training in prisons, similar to those provided in refugee settlements. Committee Chair James Kubeketerya supported this initiative, emphasizing the importance of expanding such services to other areas in need.

Additionally, UBTEB’s Executive Director Onesmus Oyesigye outlined the organization’s funding needs, including Shs 25 billion to review curricula for technical and vocational programs.
