Bobi Wine Pledges to Cut Uganda’s Cabinet to 20 Ministers and Shrink Parliament to Boost Efficiency.

Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, unveiled the National Unity Platform’s manifesto for 2026-2031 in Jinja, pledging to radically reform Uganda’s bloated and costly government structures. Bobi Wine stated that Uganda’s current Parliament, with 529 Members of Parliament (MPs), is excessively large, costly, and largely unproductive.

The manifesto promises to reduce the Cabinet to just 20 ministers, down from the current number, and slash the number of MPs. Excessive and redundant positions like Resident District Commissioners will be scrapped to curb wasteful government expenditure. Bobi Wine emphasized that these reforms aim to restore fiscal discipline, cut wasteful spending, and redirect resources towards critical sectors such as health, education, social protection, and clean water.
